The Background

As social creatures, we seek connections in the world.

We use social media and watch the news because we unintentionally seek the connections between friends, community, and the world.

Airbnb, as a platform, provides experience activities that connect people in the world.

Every day, hosts offer unique stays and activities that allow guests to experience a more authentic connection.

The Problem

Not trusting the host and doubting the value of the activity become a barrier to guests’ willingness to participate.

According to the survey I did, only 9.5% of people join the activities, and 42.9% of people don't know about this service.

The Opportunity

People who join the activity will often share their experiences via social media, especially on Instagram.

People who joined the activity procrastinated in writing a review as it took some time, but around 81% of people posted their experience on social media.

The Solution

Comshare reveals a vivid "Live" story feature like Instagram of activities and exposes the commonalities to reduce the distance between hosts and guests.

For people who love to make friends and are willing to share experience, knowledge, and skills, Comshare is an Airbnb app extension that connects hosts and guests. It lets people share their experiences, find commonalities, and build trust.

The Process

Current State of Opportunity Map
Airbnb's exclusive housing resource brings them more guests, but it still leads to price competition when competitors gain unique housing resources. On the other hand, the conflicts between hosts and guests often happen after service and reduce revenues.

Future State of Opportunity Map
The differences between actuality and photos are often a worry for guests when booking. However, using social media sharing functionality may be a channel for people to understand more and get closer to hosts and guests.

The Business Model Canvas
Airbnb works with many partners and shares its benefits with the board and the stakeholders, which allows the company to grow faster. Also, they open an activity-sharing market that aligns with their strategy and brings them to a higher level of connection.

Survey
Twenty-one people did the survey. According to the survey, half of the people don't join the activity and even don't know Airbnb has this service. After the activity, they often share their experience on social media, especially on Instagram but procrastinate in writing the reviews.
